Sanare Centre specialists help survivors explore choices around medical care, police reporting, and trauma-specific therapy services.

Sexual assault and the first four days (96 hours):

In the first four days following a sexual assault, surviviors seeking help have have three options:

  1. Medical care only.
    • From a specialized physician. 
    • Forensic evidence is not collected.
  2. Medical care with anonymous evidence collection and no police report.
    • For survivors who aren’t sure if they want to involve police.
    • Forensic evidence is collected by a specialized physician.
    • Evidence is stored anonymously for one year with the Medicine Hat Police Service. After one year evidence is destroyed.
  3. Medical care with identified evidence collection and police report.
    • For survivors who want to involve the police.
    • Forensic evidence is collected by a specialized physician.
    • Evidence is provided to police.

Lifelong Healing 

Sanare Centre offers group support, individual therapy and education programs. Our specialists can connect survivors to support services in their area.
